Tall TaleChampaign, IL

Known as the “local-up-and-comers of Champaign (IL)”, (Mike Ingram, The Buzz) Tall Tale seemed to emerge from nowhere in August of 2007 and quickly incorporated themselves into the relishing Champaign-Urbana music scene. In those quick eight months, Tall Tale’s girl fronted, melodic, piano based power pop has become a regular fixture at the famed Champaign venue, the Canopy Club, as well as making an impact in the surrounding areas of Bloomington, Peoria, and Chicago while sharing the stage with such well known acts as Headlights, the Evangelicals, Making April, Decibully, Felix Culpa, Elsinore, Unwed Sailor, and many more.

Originating as an acoustic duo in a northern suburb of Chicago, Tracey Morrison, 19, and Tricia Scully, 21, honed their songwriting and performing skills together while frequenting local coffee shops and restaurants in the Chicago-land area. In the summer of 2007, the girls went an entirely different direction and recorded their first full-length album, Pirate Ship, with their producer Daniel Good. Come fall ‘07, they had quite a powerful and sophisticated rock sound to replicate live as they ventured down state to Champaign-Urbana.

The first week of school at the University of Illinois, the two walked around the campus, CD’s in hand with a sign reading, “Bassist, Drummer, and Guitarist Needed”. They ran into bassist Jeff Dachaur, 19, guitarist Justin Tanaka, 19, and drummer Jared Park, 18. Since then, they have been hard at work, spending every second that they are not in class performing all over Illinois and collecting a strong and promising following, even being recently nominated for a 2008 WPGU Local Music Award for Best New Artist. Tall Tale is now looking forward to releasing their album this spring and they plan on touring this summer. They continue to write and have even started work on recording a second album.

Compared to such bands as Straylight Run, Eisley, and the Hush Sound, Tall Tale has a sound that appeals to a wide audience of all generations and genders. Many say the vocals of Tracey and Tricia are almost indecipherable from one another as they blend together in their haunting harmonies. Using honest and smart lyrics, the vocals tell relatable stories while the instruments create a melodic background of atmospheric guitars, driving drums, moving bass and elaborate piano. Tall Tale has come a long way from their humble beginnings as Tracey & Tricia into a buzz worthy band in Champaign, IL.
